AIFL's Bandits - 2006 Season

In front of their home crowd on Monday, Feb. 27, the Richmond Bandits (0-1) fell to the Rome Renegades (1-0) 55-43.

It was the season opener for both teams as the second season of the American Indoor Football League kicked off this past week.

The Bandits, who won the inaugural championship last season, could not carry their momentum into the season as costly turnovers and sluggish defense sealed the deal for Richmond.

Bridgewater College's own Robbie Jenkins (QB, 2003) and Marcus Richardson (WR, 2002 - #6 in picture) started for the Bandits, both their second year playing in the indoor professional league. Ranardo Whitaker (OL, 2005) dressed out, but did not record a statistic. He is playing as a defensive lineman for the Bandits.

Jenkins finished the game 20-27 passing for 262 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Richardson hauled in five catches for 78 yards and two scores (both thrown by Jenkins).

The Bandits travel to Florence, South Carolina, to face the Florence Phatoms (0-0) on Saturday, March 4. Richmond's next home game will be March 12 versus the Daytona Beach Thunder (0-1). Click here for ticket information.
